In a nutshell  - Who we are and What we do

Jadavpur University Alumni Association Hyderabad is an amulgumation of professionals engaged in various initiatives. We are also on the lookout for partnering opportunities with like minded organizations and NGOs. We heartily solicit all our members and non members to get involved.

Vision of this Vibrant Community, JUAAH

  • "Providing Scholarships" to poor and meritorious students through parent alumni association
  • Partnering with NGOs like "Sneha Ghar Aman Vedika" and "Sai Orphanage" engage on child welfare
  • Partnering with Lions' Club to help conduct "Philanthropic Activities" in remote villages of Telengana in districts of Adilabad and Warangal
  • Spending time with the aged in old age homes and providing them with food & necessary items
  • Organizing major "Cultural Programs" in the city with performances by internationally acclaimed artists like Pt. Viswamohan Bhatt, Pt. Rahul Sharma, Pt. Raghav Chatterjee, Pt. Subhankar, Soumitra Chattohpadhyay and others
  • Help in "Rebuilding Cyclone Aila affected schools in Sundarban area" of West Bengal
  • Conducting Science Symposium every year for developing scientific temperament and promoting inquisitiveness among school students of Hyderabad since 2009

JU Alumni Association, Hyderabad - Activities

Social Activities

  • We have been closely associated with Aman Vedika Sneha Ghar, a childrens' home by providing them various assistance in kind for the welfare of children
  • We have been associated with Om Shanti Om Old Age Home in 2015 and contributed in kind
  • We have helped rebuild a school in the Napitkhali area of Sundarbans in West Bengal, which had been devastated by cyclone Aila
  • We provide scholarships to needy meritorious students of our Alma Mater through our parent organization
  • A part of the proceeds from our cultural programmes goes for sponsoring philanthropic and charitable activities through partner organizations

Educational and Literary Activities

  • Since 2009 we have been regularly conducting Science Symposium for school students in Hyderabad, including that of underprivileged kids by inviting notable scientists from DRDO, CCMB, NGRI, ISRO and other reputed scientific establishments, to provide an overview on scientific topics of interest and also promote innovation through arrangement of poster and other competitions among students on specific themes having modern day relevance
  • Our in house web magazine is a very popular online magazine which promotes seasoned as well as budding authors, poets and artists. It has a dedicated kid's section for encouraging our children to exhibit their talent at a very early stage. 
  • Previous issue of our online  magazine Sei Somoy 2014 e - zine is available for netizens for free download

Cultural Activities

  • A duet performance by Jagannath Bose and Urmimala Bose in CCRT on Nov 2016
  • Desert Slide - the annual cultural festival was held on 7th Feb 2016
  • Bhin deshe Tara - an inhouse cultural programme which involved a childrens' drama based on a short story by Sukumar Ray, a play based on Mahabharata and its utility in the modern age directed by Parthapratim Mullick and Nilanjan Chatterjee, and a dance programme, in CCRT on 13th December 2015
  • Annual cultural programme on 4th January 2015 at Rabindra Bharati - performance by Pt. Rahul Sharma and Pt. Subhankar Bannerjee
  • Sacred Drums of India, an annual cultural programme on 14th December 2013 at Rabindra Bharati, performance by a galaxy of seasoned artists such as Pt. Rakesh Chaurasia on the flute, Pt. Subhankar Banerjee on the tabla, Pt. Suresh Vaidyanathan on the ghatam, Satish K Patri on the mridangam and Gopal Barman on the sreekhol
  • Katha or Kahini, on 25th and 26th Aug 2012 at Rabindra Bharathi, Pt. Sugato Nag (Sitar), Pt. Shubhankar Banerjee (Tabla) and  Sri Sounak Chattopadhyay (Vocal)
    Legendary actor, Dada Saheb Phalke recipient and Padmabhushan Sri Soumitra Chattopadhyay was the star attraction on Sunday, 26th August ‘12 and there was also a cine-play of Tagore’s  “Noshtonir” – a Jojok production by Sri Gautam Halder, starring Dulal Lahiri, Ritabhari & Subhrajeet

Our Get Togethers - Annual Trips and Picnics

Every year we undertake atleast one trips to outside Hyderabad, preferably an overnight journey using trains and buses. Almost 20-25 alumni members and their family participate in these outings and these outings are always filled with fun and enjoyments. The following trips have been undertaken so far -

Already completed excursions

  • In Aug 2016 we went to Adilabad district in small group for local sight seeing and for promoting education
  • In 2015 we went to Hampi.
  • In 2014 we went to Anantagiri Hills and Araku Valley in Vizag.
  • In 2013 we went to Horseley Hills
  • In 2012 we went to Bhavani Islands in Vijaywada and to Suryalanka beach.
  • In 2011 we went to Dindi in the Konaseema area of Andhra Pradesh
Our Annual Picnics and Vijaya Sommeloni Get Togethers
  • Every year we have atleast one picnic in the months of January or February in a very lare scale where we invite all members and family to a get together in a highly subsidized lunch, cultural and fun activities, in an exotic location, like Jalvayu Vihar, Shilparamam, Botanical Garden, Vanasthalipuram, Kidwai Kutir and so on. The picnic is also the occasion for our annual AGM and the opportunity to know our key members, seniors and the plan for the entire year.
  • Our Vijaya Sommeloni get togethers are mostly in house cultural events.

Our last AGM took place on 21st Jan 2024 in Dew Drop Party Farm, near Gandipet Lake.
