The Hyderabad Chapter of Jadavpur University Alumni Association (JUAAH) had been organising an annual symposium on Popular Science for school students since 2009. Symposia conducted so far were highly interactive and appreciated by the participating schools from our twin cities. This year, we organized our 12th Science Symposium and Innovation Workshop (XII-SSIW) on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at the CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT) Auditorium, Hyderabad.

The symposium agenda covered the following –

    • Dr. Sayam Sengupta, Professor, Dept. of Chemical Sciences, IISER, Kolkata
  • Essay Competition (Refer Page 2)
  • Poster Competition (Refer Page 2)
  • Science Quiz (Refer Page 2)
  • Prize Distribution

Brief program schedule: Teams from schools were requested to reach the venue between 8:30 - 8:45am.

  • Registration and kit distribution 8:30am
  • Inauguration of the symposium 9:15am
  • Speaker session 1 9:45am
  • Snacks and tea break 10:45am
  • Speaker session 2 11:00am

There were 12 schools participating in this years Symposium. Each school could shortlist 1 team for the quiz competition and 1 team for poster competition. The quiz team should be different from the team participating in the poster competition. Additionally, a maximum of 3 essays (individual) per school can be submitted for the essay writing competition.

We felt happy to share the message from Dr. Venki Ramakrishnan (Nobel Laureate in Chemistry in 2009 for derivation of structure of Ribosome) as below for the students Participants of our Science Symposium.

“Science is a global endeavour, and very important for the development of all humanity as well as any country. It is also simple human curiosity about the world around us. These students should be congratulated for their participation in the programme and I wish them all the best in their future studies.”
