One fine morning, Brahmadeva was sitting peacefully in Brahmaloka, his four mouths reciting the four Vedas continuously. He was very happy with his creation. Suddenly, he felt as if many gods were heading towards Brahmaloka. He welcomed them with a smile, but then he realised that they were not happy.
On enquiring, he got to know that they were hungry.
Brahmadeva was shocked. “I don’t understand. Please explain what happened.”
The gods complained, “We are not getting food.”
“You can get food through yagnas. The oblations are poured into fire, the mouth of the gods. Then the food reaches the intended deity. So, why can’t you get food?” Brahmadeva asked.
Indradeva protested, “We know, Param Pita. We know the process. But Agnideva burns all the oblations. Hence, we can’t get food.”
Agnideva said, “It is true, Param Pita, that I am truly to blame. But what should I do? I do not possess the power to transport the food to the gods. I can only burn it.”
Brahmadeva became extremely worried. He said, “I understand your problem. Kindly give me some time.”
He started thinking about what could be done. Then he surrendered himself to Maa Jagatjanani. He started meditating on the Moola Prakriti.
After a while, a goddess came. She said, “I am Devi Swaha. Bhudevi sent me. I am the cosmic medium that transmits offerings and makes this important exchange between Earth and Heaven possible.”
